Founded in 2015, The University of Chicago Graduate China Forum is one of the most important student-run forums in the Midwestern United States. It aims to promote intellectual exchange and bilateral cooperation between the U.S. and China by creating a platform for presenting diverse perspectives on contemporary U.S.-China issues.

Our mission is to make the forum a key hub of communication and collaboration between the U.S. and China in the Midwestern U.S. and an engaging platform for University of Chicago professors, students and alumni interested in the U.S.-China relationship.

By initiating ongoing dialogues between the U.S. and China, we expect the forum to:

  • Provide unique insights into the U.S.-China relationship and expand the audience’s knowledge of China

  • Help the audience understand and identify key opportunities stemming from U.S.-China dynamics

  • Provide networking opportunities for the audience and distinguished leaders in all fields

Panel Topics

Economics Panel

U.S.-China Phase one trade agreement ignites the expectations that China will accelerate the reform and opening-up of its financial markets. Although presenting exciting opportunities to investors, China's financial market is historically perceived to be opaque and risky. Understanding China’s economy is key to understanding the future of the global economy.

Is now a good time to update our understandings about the market? What are the developing characteristics of China’s economy and what opportunities does this provide to US companies?

What are the unique characteristics of China's financial markets? How can someone outside of China understand China's financial market better?

What are the pressing issues in China's financial markets? What are the directions in the reform and opening up of China's financial markets?

What is the role played by the onshore and offshore markets going forward? What are the opportunities presented for business communities?
